Care Team® Member Awards Received

Tejano Woman of the Year Award Finalist, 2000

Natalia Martinez, a Team Leader of the St. Patrick's Catholic Community Second Family Care Team®, was named one of three finalists for the Tejano Woman of the Year Award.  The award is made annually by the Houston Chronicle and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in recognition of individuals who serve the greater Houston community and have made a major impact in the Hispanic community and among Hispanic youth.  Natalia led a team of over 60 Care Team® members in a northeast, mainly Hispanic, neighborhood.  Natalia's dedication and zeal were seemingly limitless - she was herself receiving weekly chemotherapy as she fought her third bout of cancer.

Metlife Foundation Older Volunteers Enrich America Award, 2000

Bill Rawl has been a member of the Memorial Drive United Methodist Alzheimer's Care Team®since its inception in 1993.  Team coordinator Sharon Kirby nominated Bill to the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging for a Metlife Foundation Older Volunteers Enrich America Award in the Team Spirit category.  Selected as one of 25 extraordinary older adult volunteers, Bill received an engraved gift that acknowledged his achievement and the Alzheimer's Care Team® project received a gift of $500 as a contribution to care for families with Alzheimer's.  We estimate that Bill has driven over 60,000 miles driving Alzheimer's patients to day care centers during the past 12 years.

American General Volunteer Award, 2000

Presented to Virginia Breaux, a member of the Woodlands Community Presbyterian Care Team®, whose voluntary services have been recognized by her employer.  Each year American General honors employees whose volunteer services are noteworthy.

Hannah G. Solomon Award, 1998

Presented to Ferne Winograd, a member of the Second Family Care Team®, Congregation Beth Israel.  This tribute from the National Council of Jewish Women is "presented to outstanding individuals who have worked to change the lives of others or improved the quality of life for people of all ages and backgrounds."

Virginia Slims "Local Legend Award," 1998

Presented to Dr. Fran Moncure, a member of the  AIDS Care Team®, Christ The King Lutheran Church.  This tribute from the Houston Chapter of the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) recognized her eleven years of service at Interfaith CarePartners.  A duplicate of the plaque she received was placed in the National Women's Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls, NY.

The Elliot H. Matthews Foundation "Volunteer Award," 1998

Presented to Ed and Janelle Armstrong, members of the AIDS Care Team® at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, for unwavering commitment in service to people with HIV/AIDS and civil rights.

Houston Heroes, 1997

Presented to Bobby Wright and Dolores Scott,  AIDS Care Team® leaders at the Fort Bend County Care Team®, and  Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, respectively.  This tribute from the Houston Chapter of the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA) recognized "individuals who have made an important impact on the Houston fight against HIV/AIDS."

National Outstanding AIDS Caregiver Award, 1995

Presented to Dianne Martinez, a member of the Interfaith CarePartners® AIDS Care Team® at Trinity Episcopal Church, Baytown. This tribute from Mary Fisher's Family AIDS Network "recognizes caregivers who provide unusually long or dedicated service to people living with AIDS."
